Assembling joysticks for off-highway machinery required two robots to work closely together in a confined cell while meeting a demanding production pace. Their movements needed careful coordination, and with no compressed air available, the solution had to be fully electric.

The team developed a synchronized assembly and transfer cell using Kassow Robots’ KR1410 Edge and KR1018 models with SCHUNK electric grippers. The robots’ seventh axis provided the flexibility to coordinate movements within the shared workspace, while the Edge Edition’s integrated controller helped keep the installation compact. Before deployment, the full six-cell, twelve-robot line was simulated in Visual Components to validate cycle times and robot coordination.

The resulting cell achieved stable cycle times and coordinated dual-robot operation, without the need for compressed-air infrastructure. It also established an approach that could be replicated across the remaining five cells, with the project leading to further collaboration on repeat projects.
