4D Robotics Vision

Vision

Apera AI's 4D Vision gives robots human-caliber sight, training an AI neural network to recognize parts and plan collision-free paths with greater than 99.9% reliability, using only standard 2D cameras instead of specialized 3D hardware. Loaded into Apera Vue, our vision-guided robotics software, this AI powers applications like bin picking, racking and de-racking, machine tending, and general robotic guidance, completing object recognition and full path planning in as little as 0.3 seconds while working reliably in any lighting condition and with shiny, clear, translucent, or complex parts that trip up conventional vision systems. Every project is designed and validated first in Apera Forge, our web-based simulation studio, so teams can build and test a robotic cell in hours with no hardware risk before deployment.

Features
  • Sub-second vision cycle times — object identification and full robotic path planning in as little as 0.3 seconds, versus 3-8 seconds for conventional 3D vision
  • Simulation-first deployment — build, train, and validate the entire robotic cell in Apera Forge before any hardware ships; no cameras, robots, or computers required during design
  • AI-trained accuracy — parts trained via synthetic data through a million-cycle neural network process, reaching greater than 99.9% reliability before deployment
  • Handles difficult part finishes and geometry — reliably picks shiny, clear, and translucent objects, and complex shapes where traditional point-cloud vision fails
  • Lighting-independent operation — no structured lighting or special sensors needed; operates in bright, near-dark, and shadowed conditions using standard 2D cameras
  • Universal robot compatibility — integrates with all major industrial robot and cobot brands, with new drivers addable in weeks
  • Built-in collision avoidance — defines safe operating boundaries for the robot, bins, and containers to prevent damage during operation
  • Fast, factory-ready deployment — pre-calibrated VuePort hardware in small, medium, and large configurations; calibration takes about 15 minutes
  • Continuous improvement — software-driven system that improves over time rather than being locked to fixed camera hardware limitations
  • Multiple applications from one platform — bin picking, de-racking, machine tending, robotic guidance, and select inspection tasks (position, presence/absence, high-speed final assembly checks)
  • Risk-free performance guarantee — performance specifications agreed upon before purchase, backed by ongoing vision training included with the system
